From Don Draper to Marty Supreme, sometimes the best characters are the ones that you aren't necessarily rooting for.

And films that don't hide the ending allow audiences to really focus on the journey, without being distracted by the idea of the climax. Lars Von Trier's "Melancholia" serves as a perfect example. The threat of the literal end of the world is looming, but viewers already know exactly how it's going to turn out.
